Washington County Maine is one of the poorest counties in all of the United States. Comprised of small fishing towns and farming communities, Washington County rings in different socially, economically, and spiritually than the rest of Maine and the U.S.A.. Since the down turn of the economy, many feel like there is no hope left and feel powerless to improve their situation. Many towns in Washington County have unemployment rates over 22% and assistance resources have been stretched too thin.
After experiencing a domestic mission trip with 3rd world-like living in the mountains of Virginia, Stroudwater felt led to serve in Maine’s own Washington County. 2018 marks the 8th trip for Stroudwater in this section of the world. The desire is to offer a lift up not hand out to the community. With emergency home repair and community building projects, Stroudwater strives to bring hope to individuals and groups in Washington County.
Our current area of work is in and around Princeton, a small town with a population of around 600 year-round residents. July 23-29, 2017 we will be traveling to Washington County to minister with another family in the community by providing much needed home repair, working with the town to repair a public park and doing a daily sports camp and feeding program at the local elementary school.
The trip cost $300 per person. That includes project money, transportation and the room and board for the week. We are requesting a $50.00 deposit by June 30 and the balance of the $300.00 to be paid in full by July 12
